General summary
Provides strategic and operational leadership for department. Represents teaching and learning priorities in institutional planning and governance, cultivates collaborative partnerships, and aligns Center for Teaching, Learning and Development (CTLD) initiatives to advance teaching excellence, instructional innovation, and data-informed educational experiences.
Major duties
- Develops and refines strategic plans and annual objectives aligned with institutional priorities; contributes to organizational strategy, policy, and culture that support teaching excellence and educational innovation. Represents the organization in governance, policy discussions, committees, and working groups; and leads change management initiatives that advance teaching and learning transformation.
- Builds and maintains partnerships across academic and administrative units, serve as a strategic consultant to academic leaders, and coordinates department resources to advance University priorities and foster cross-campus collaboration.
- Provides operational leadership for department, directing workflows, services, and resources to support high-quality teaching and learning.
- Oversees instructional development, educational technologies, systems, infrastructure, and web resources to ensure effective and integrated support.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, professional growth, and succession planning across department teams.
- Oversees budget planning, resource allocation, and financial stewardship in support of strategic and operational priorities.
- Ensures department compliance with best practices, accreditation requirements, accessibility standards, and applicable regulations. Oversees continuous improvement of quality standards across programs and services.
- Promotes evidence-based teaching practices across the institution, leads instructional innovation initiatives, supports the scholarship of teaching and learning, and translates emerging research into actionable recommendations for institutional improvement.
- Establishes assessment metrics and leads continuous improvement efforts using data, learning analytics, and stakeholder feedback. Guides the strategic use of data to support planning, program evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Represents the CTLD in professional associations, conferences, and collaborative networks; builds strategic partnerships with peer institutions, educational organizations, and industry partners. Engages with current scholarships in higher education to inform CTLD strategy and practice, with opportunities to contribute through research, publications, and presentations. Provides senior leadership in addressing emerging institutional needs through adaptive, evidence-based decision-making.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.

Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Eight years’ relevant experience.
- Experience leading organizational change and complex, multi-stakeholder projects in higher education.
- Experience collaborating with academic leadership and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
- Expertise in instructional design theory, practice, and leadership.
- Knowledge of educational technologies, learning management systems, and multimedia production.
- Experience using data and learning analytics to support decision-making, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards, Universal Design for Learning, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Expertise in evidence-based pedagogy, including experiential learning, high-impact practices, and instruction across multiple modalities.
- Experience with faculty development, professional learning, or academic staff development.
- Experience with budget management, resource allocation, and financial planning.
- Higher education teaching and facilitation experience across multiple instructional modalities.
- Experience mentoring, supervising, and developing teaching and learning professionals.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and institutional compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strategic partnerships within and beyond the institution.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
