General summary
Oversees the daily operations of the Chinese Language and Cultural Programs and Timothy Light Center.
Major duties
- Oversees the operations of the Chinese Language and Cultural Program. Manages Chinese language and cultural classes, workshops, and events. Monitors the program and provides improvements on cultural content accuracy and teaching effectiveness. Answers teaching questions, requests, and complaints.
- Supports the operations of the Timothy Light Center. Maintains communication with academic scholars and event participants. Processes independent contractor agreements, invoices, and forms.
- Monitors webpage content updates and marketing materials. Acquires and Communicates publicity information. Recommends publicity timing and channels.
- Maintains accurate records and reports. Prepares and organizes operational and administrative documents. Compiles quarterly and annual reports.
- Helps sustain relationships with partner schools. Maintains educational programs. Initiates relationships with organizations and identifies collaboration opportunities. Acts as a liaison between Asian Initiatives and other organizations.
- Coordinates meetings with boards, committees, and community organizations. Maintains communication in both English and Chinese as needed.
- Prepares immigration papers for teachers and professors. Secures rental housing. Negotiates leasing terms, signing, and initial payments. Ensures compliance with University departments.
- Updates and translates collaborating agreements between Asian Initiatives and local schools and organizations. Negotiates program fees. Customizes liability waivers and release forms.
- Monitors activity spending. Selects vendors and service providers. Ensures timely renewal of software and accounts. Supports annual budgeting and event invoicing. Consolidates and creates monthly expense reports. Approves reimbursement claims. Collects unpaid tuition and service fees.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Competent in Chinese language and knowledge of Chinese culture.
- Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- Strong organizational, management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively.
- Ability to focus on tasks with frequent interruption.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
