General summary

Manages communication channels to deliver University news, features, social media, and executive communications, to engage audiences and elevate the University's brand.

Major duties

  • Edits, manages, distributes, and may create content for University communications, including WMU News, WMU Magazine, social media, and executive communications.
  • Ensures content is strategically distributed through the most effective University channels to align with objectives and target audiences.
  • Guides content creators in developing compelling stories and visuals that elevate the University's brand messages.
  • Curates content from campus news and communication sites for broader distribution through WMU News and other channels, including social media.
  • Directs other communication projects as needed.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience
  • Experience working in a news-oriented environment as an editor, writer, producer or reporter.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements
