General summary

Provides essential leadership support for Housing and Residence Life, overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, budget management, and supervising assistant directors.

Major duties

  • Manages and provides supervision to a team of housing leadership and student employees. Oversees staffing schedules and ensures efficient workflow across housing functions. Supervises the central housing office and supports staff development through training and performance evaluations.
  • Plans, reviews, and manages the department’s budget. Oversees payroll budget, including creation and management of payroll trackers. Serves as department’s approver for any Enterprise Resource Planning system forms.
  • Oversees work study information, policies, hiring, training, and audit processes for staff and student employees. Oversees the employee discipline process for student employees. Creates and maintains overall processes and procedures to process mail and packages.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director on strategic planning for the department and sets goals for the department’s future. In Director’s absence, has sole oversight and responsibility of Housing and Residence Life related functions including but not limited to high level decisions like contract release, budgetary, policy enforcement, and facility emergencies. Serves as contact for any other offices on campus that need assistance with major issues happening with students.
  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates process for any groups, offices on campus, and individual students that need to move in early to residence halls and provide guidance for early move in for apartments. This includes maintaining relationships with offices on campus while communicating and preparing all parties involved effectively.
  • Participates in the On-Call Duty Rotation, which includes handling after-hours crisis and emergency issues for all residence halls and on-campus apartments. Assists with recruitment efforts for on-campus residency and the hiring of graduate assistants and professional staff which comprises of attending recruiting events for graduate assistants and professional staff and assists with interviews. Works at several Admissions/Orientation events assisting students in the housing sign-up process, tours of the residence halls, and working at parent programs.
  • Oversees the central office while managing operations for all of on-campus housing ensuring that all buildings are running consistently across the board, student concerns are being helped, and facility issues are being addressed. Maintains schedules and assignments of staff to ensure proper workflow for Housing office needs and functions to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of departmental operations.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.

Required experience

  • Five years of relevant experience including housing experience.
  • Formal training and experience in crisis intervention and conflict management.
  • Experience supervising student employees.
  • Experience supervising professionals.
  • Experience with university administrative processes and policies
  • Experience with budget management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • Ability to be available for extensive evening and weekend hours and responsibilities including being on-call for emergencies and trainings.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
