General summary
Represents the department in high-level meetings and University cabinet discussions. Oversees external operations including marketing, communications, fan engagement, sponsorship, ticketing, and licensing. Manages third-party partnerships related to name, image, and likeness initiatives and supervises assigned sports programs.
Major duties
- Leads the strategic communications efforts for the athletics department, including the development of communication plans and management of digital and social media. Monitors engagement and works to strengthen connections with the community and key stakeholders. Supports educational initiatives related to name, image, and likeness through content creation and digital media strategies for teams and student-athletes.
- Oversees key revenue-generating areas within the athletics department, including ticket sales and sponsorship. Identifies and implements strategies to grow financial resources. Collaborates with University partners on merchandising and licensing initiatives.
- Develops and implements creative game-day promotions and experiences to increase attendance, engage the community, and enhance the atmosphere at athletic events. Oversees the execution of in-event elements such as announcements, music, timing, and promotional activities.
- Supervises video production efforts to support promotional, recruiting, and name, image, and likeness initiatives. Oversees the creation of engaging and innovative content, including live streaming of athletic events.
- Leads fan engagement initiatives to enhance the game-day experience and strengthen community involvement. Chairs internal committees focused on fan experience and uses feedback to guide improvements. Builds and maintains positive relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, fans, community members, and University partners.
- Serves as a sport supervisor for designated athletic programs, providing leadership and oversight as assigned. Participates in the department’s sport supervision team to support consistent policy implementation and effective program management across all sports.
- Oversees the athletics department’s third-party name, image, and likeness program, including management of external partnerships and merchandising relationships.
- Serves as a member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic direction on the affairs of the entire department of athletics.
- Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight in the absence of the Athletic Director. Represents the athletics department in meetings and University-level discussions as needed.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Eight years' relevant experience.
- Experience working within an intercollegiate athletics department.
- Demonstrated experience in revenue generation activities such as ticket sales, sponsorship or licensing activities.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds. Noisy in reference to game day environments. Hot or cold in reference to game day environments.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
