General summary
Supports the University’s public safety operations, including parking services and identification systems. Assists with the maintenance and operation of surveillance, alarm, access control, ID card, key management, and building security systems.
Major duties
- Assists with the administration of the University’s card access system by creating guest and affiliate accounts, modifying access levels, adjusting time schedules, and ensuring proper system functionality across campus facilities.
- Supports Parking Services with the issuance of parking permits and the processing of payments for parking violations. Responds to customer inquiries in person and by telephone regarding parking rules, regulations, and campus directions.
- Utilizes computer systems and software for payment processing, notations, and journal entries, and verifies vehicle registration and ownership using the state law enforcement information system.
- Provides support to the University’s identification card office by reviewing photo submissions, maintaining printers, taking photos, registering iris scans, and issuing ID cards.
- Contributes to the implementation of software updates and system upgrades to ensure the latest security technologies and features are utilized across all security systems.
- Provides training and support to University public safety and staff in the use of security systems, including access control systems, key management procedures, and surveillance equipment.
- Serves as a point of contact for troubleshooting minor issues and escalating complex problems to the systems administrator.
- Maintains and updates detailed building security system drawings that outline all physical entry and exit points, including card access doors, security zones, and camera locations.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Experience working with security systems, surveillance equipment, access control systems and/or key management systems.
- Familiarity with card access systems, electronic lock technology, key management procedures, and access control software.
- Knowledge of networking, IT systems and troubleshooting techniques for security related technologies.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds. Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools up to 25 pounds. Ability to work at computer workstations for extended periods. May need to navigate through various campus buildings and areas to perform maintenance checks on security systems.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements. There are instances where the job requires working additional hours into the evening, including weekends.
