General summary
Directs mental health treatment and care and coordinates prevention, intervention, and support efforts across the University to assist for success and well-being of students, faculty and staff. Supervises psychiatric social workers, dieticians and trainees as well as the development and implementation of novel programs designed to meet the wellness needs of the University.
Major duties
- Provides leadership, supervision, and program management for multiple interdisciplinary wellness initiatives across the University and health center.
- Oversees staffing models, supervises licensed professionals and trainees, and ensures documentation compliance within the electronic health record system. Develops and maintains protocols, processes, and policies to support program growth and accreditation standards.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to optimize billing systems and administrative workflows.
- Leads ongoing training and professional development to meet evolving institutional and clinical needs.
- Provides integrated care using multiple treatment modalities across diverse wellness programs serving students, faculty, and staff.
- Oversees specialized initiatives supporting access to health services, compliance with athletic mental health standards, and collaborative care models.
- Leads crisis support and screening efforts for targeted populations and supervises clinical programming within primary care settings.
- Expands clinical training opportunities for student interns through a broad range of experiential learning placements.
- Collaborates with University stakeholders to develop coordinated, multidisciplinary approaches to student support and advocacy. Contributes to strategic planning and ensures compliance with accreditation standards and best practices.
- Manages departmental budgets, supports grant development, and participates in hiring and onboarding processes. Oversees continuing education and professional development for departmental staff.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in a therapeutic setting and providing therapy.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience providing training in mental health services to student athletes.
Required other
- Licensure as a Master-level Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. Some walking required to meet with students in various locations around campus.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
