General summary
Develops and executes marketing and communications strategies that strengthen the University’s competitive position in areas such as enrollment, research, creative activity, and philanthropy. Enhances brand alignment, messaging consistency, and communication effectiveness by coordinating efforts across Academic Affairs and collaborating with institutional marketing partners. Stays current on higher education marketing best practices, industry trends, and institutional priorities to inform strategic decision-making.
Major duties
- Analyzes and advises on marketing and communications priorities within the department to align strategies with institutional goals and uses data to guide decision-making.
- Develops, evaluates, and advises on cross-unit marketing initiatives to achieve measurable outcomes and ensure brand and message alignment with the University’s strategy. Supports consistent application of standards, best practices, and University policies.
- Leads collaboration among marketing staff within the department, central marketing teams, and University leadership to establish shared priorities, standards, procedures, and coordinated campaigns.
- Leads marketing and communications strategy efforts within the department in partnership with unit marketing staff. Partners on communication and thought leadership initiatives for University leadership, including speeches, messages, and campaigns that elevate the department.
- Provides strategic guidance, consultation, and training to marketing staff within the department to strengthen capacity and ensure consistency in practices and messaging.
- Defines, tracks, and reports success metrics for marketing initiatives within the department, using data to evaluate outcomes and recommend improvements.
- Represents the department on University-wide councils, committees, and workgroups, contributing expertise in strategy, communication, and collaboration.
- Supervises staff and leads the department marketing strategy efforts and work teams.
- Other duties as assigned to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and support the University’s values.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Eight years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory Experience.
- Experience developing and executing strategic marketing and communications plans.
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to form strong relationships across a large organization.
- Ability to lead teams.
- Ability to develop, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
