General summary
Plans, coordinates, oversees, and manage technology transfer agreements and research commercialization activities. Assesses the intellectual property and marketing landscapes of new disclosures and actively market WMU innovations to the private sector. Collaborates with faculty, staff, administrators, and external organizations.
Major duties
- Provides administrative support for technology transfer and commercialization activities, including managing data use agreements, material transfer agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, and inter-institutional agreements.
- Evaluates market potential of latest ideas and technologies and collaborates to identify potential licenses.
- License, write options and catalyze collaborations with external entities to the University.
- Fosters and facilitate entrepreneurial activities at the University
- Serves as University liaison with external partners.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and work successfully with academic scholars, entrepreneurs, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to negotiate with the private sector
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and decision-making and work with minimal supervision.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
