General summary
Supports and coordinates team operations related to deal sourcing, due diligence, investment analysis, and networking activities. Engages with entrepreneurial leaders and gains professional experience through exposure to emerging startups and established investors. Contributes to strengthening the regional startup and investment ecosystem.
Major duties
- Assists with due diligence and fund management activities by preparing analyses and investment memoranda that incorporate scientific, technical, clinical, and financial assessments of potential startup investments. Provides investment recommendations based on completed evaluations.
- Assists with managing the investment pipeline and sourcing prospective opportunities by attending presentations and events and collaborating with investment, entrepreneurial, and institutional partners.
- Partners with early stage investment funds, angel investors, and venture capital groups to support startup development and investment activity. Collaborates with state and regional economic development agencies and entrepreneurial support organizations to strengthen the startup ecosystem. Supports early stage business development needs for private sector entrepreneurs and institutional startup spinouts.
- Represents the organization in meetings with entrepreneurs, investors, innovation partners, and startup support organizations. Manages startup and commercialization metrics and oversees related reporting activities to support program evaluation and strategic decision making.

Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Relevant work experience in life sciences, biological medical health startups or relevant work experience in physical sciences, technology startups, or early-stage investments.
- Working experience with venture capital investing.
- Familiarity with the process of research commercialization.
- Ability to search and analyze scientific literature, consult industry experts, synthesize and concisely communicate complex scientific information.
- Strong organizational, project management, presentation, and communicational skills.
- Ability to interact with faculty, staff, external investors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment and to work under pressure with deadlines.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Exceptional with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings.
- Ability to travel.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
