General summary
Provides comprehensive eye care, including routine vision exams, diagnosis and treatment of common ocular conditions, and evaluation and management of patients with low vision. Delivers personalized care plans, prescribes corrective lenses or adaptive devices, and collaborates to support optimal visual health across a diverse patient population.
Major duties
- Conducts comprehensive eye exams.
- Diagnoses and manages ocular disease.
- Prescribes, recommends and fits eyeglasses.
- Monitors systemic conditions that have effects on the ocular system
- Develops individualized treatment plans.
- Performs and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Collaborates with other healthcare providers.
- Maintains accurate patient records.
- Conducts goal-oriented low vision exams.
- Interacts with student observers and supports the educational goals of the clinic.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Doctoral degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Professional optometry experience providing routine vision care and low-vision services in a clinical setting.
Required other
- Current state license to practice in state of Michigan, including successful completion of all National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
