General summary

Manages and maintains the department’s application infrastructure, including containerized services, artificial intelligence and machine learning pipeline environments, graphics processing unit accelerated computing resources, and web application servers. Provides support for accessibility remediation, digital preservation, and digital scholarship infrastructure.

Major duties

  • Deploys, configures, monitors and maintains containerized services environments including externally hosted services.
  • Configures reverse proxy and web servers for routing, transport lay security and load distribution. Administers production applications.
  • Maintains vector database operations. Documents ingestion workflows, embeds generation pipelines and query endpoint management.
  • Maintains production environments for PDF processing tools and federal accessibility validation. Administers digital preservation nodes and associated network participation.
  • Maintains server hardware, virtual server environments and applications hosting infrastructure. Performs backup and restore functions, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Ensures application layer security by managing authentication integrations, application programming interface access controls, secret management practices, and compliance with University information security policies.
  • Maintains application, system, and infrastructure documentation; develops operational runbooks; evaluates emerging platforms and artificial intelligence tools; and represents departmental technology interests in University information technology planning groups and relevant committees

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution, or a bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Experience in systems administration, application infrastructure or development operations engineering.
  • Experience with server administration, containerization, web server, reverse proxy configuration and scripting automation.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. Occasional work in server rooms and handling rack-mount hardware.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
