General summary

Provides comprehensive vision care in a community based educational clinic setting. Collaborates to combine technical expertise and patient education.

Major duties

  • Assists with patient exams, including vision screenings and diagnostic tests.
  • Performs pre-testing procedures such as measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and other eye health assessments.
  • Captures patient histories and document symptoms, medications, and relevant health information.
  • Educates patients on eye care, correct lens application and maintenance of glasses or contact lenses.
  • Provides guidance to patients in choosing, fitting, and obtaining eyeglasses and contact lenses based on prescription specifications, lifestyle considerations, and individual preferences.
  • Adjusts, repairs, and maintains eyeglasses and frames as needed.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with clinic policies and privacy regulations.
  • Collaborates with the clinical team to provide seamless, patient-centered care.
  • Supports community education programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives related to eye health.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Experience in optometric or ophthalmology practice.
  • Strong knowledge of eye anatomy, vision correction devices, and diagnostic testing procedures.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to accurately measure, fit, and dispense eyewear.
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Proven commitment to patient education, community outreach, and promoting eye health. Ability to multitask and maintain a safe, organized clinical environment.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
