General summary

Provides strategic leadership for operations, technology, and academic user experience within the University's Grand Rapids facility. Oversees daily operations, space utilization, classroom technology, and IT services, while supporting faculty, staff, and students and coordinating with University stakeholders to advance academic and institutional priorities.

Major duties

  • Oversees strategic operations, including recommending and implementing operational policies, procedures, and initiatives. Develops and maintains effective relationships with faculty, staff, building occupants, University stakeholders, vendors, and contractors. Manages daily facility operations, ensuring classrooms and learning spaces are prepared, supported, and aligned with instructional needs and institutional priorities.
  • Provides strategic leadership for information technology, facilities, operations, and project management. Oversees technical and facilities projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, tenants, vendors, and contractors. Provide strategic leadership for information technology, facilities, and operational support, as well as project management and collaborating on university-wide initiatives. Collaborates across departments to optimize technology use, implement technology improvements, and support University-wide initiatives.
  • Provide strategic leadership for information technology, facilities, and operational support, as well as project management and collaborating on University-wide initiatives. Oversees the design and implementation of computer labs, HyFlex and specialty technology classrooms, and the maintenance of technology infrastructure, networks, and security systems.
  • Oversees the reliability, maintenance, and lifecycle management of technology equipment and software. Ensures IT hardware, software, and systems are deployed and maintained in accordance with University standards. Evaluates technology needs and implements solutions that support academic, operational, and innovative initiatives. Provides technical leadership, consultation, and reporting support to faculty, staff, and departments utilizing the facility.
  • Manages academic scheduling and space utilization to optimize teaching, advising, and student-support activities. Serves as the primary point of contact for faculty, staff, students, and campus partners using the facility, providing communication, troubleshooting, and coordination.
  • Manages budgets, projects, and financial operations, including information technology, facilities, building operations, and specialized initiatives. Oversees and approves contracts, purchases, and expenditures. Analyzes operational and technology requirements, develops budget recommendations, and supports planning for current and future facility and IT needs.
  • Coordinates with central units for any external partner, recruitment, community engagement, or dual-enrollment requests to ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Develops and administers policies, procedures, and access controls to maintain a safe and secure learning environment. Oversees building onboarding and communications, ensures compliance with safety protocols, and coordinates emergency, maintenance, and custodial responses.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Experience in planning, administrating, and supporting information technology systems, applications, and resources.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Experience with modern workplace environments.

Required other

  • Applicable industry certifications or training.
  • Requires the ability to access roofs, basements, tunnels, crawl spaces, elevated areas, and other restricted or difficult-to-access locations as necessary to perform essential installation, maintenance, repair, remodeling, and troubleshooting duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
