WMU Kalamazoo Promise Book Borrowing Service
WMU Kalamazoo Promise Book Borrowing Service Quick Guide
What the Service does
Buys required course materials (books and eligible physical digital access cards) from the WMU Bookstore and loans physical books to verified Kalamazoo Promise undergraduate students.
Who is eligible
- WMU undergrads who are Kalamazoo Promise scholarship recipients (verified in the Kalamazoo Promise Portal).
- Must be enrolled at least half‑time for the term you’re requesting (6 credits Fall/Spring; 3 credits summer).
- Domestic students must have a FAFSA on file with WMU. International Promise students are exempt.
How to get materials
- Schedule an in‑person appointment via Calendly (email confirmation will be sent). Appointments open one week before classes and until 48 hours after the add/drop deadline. Rolling approvals available to the 4th week for emergencies.
- Bring your WMU ID and the course syllabus showing a required book. The Graduate Assistant will review and buy eligible materials from the WMU Bookstore.
- You will receive an email when your approved materials are ready for pickup.
What’s covered
- Books listed as “required” on your syllabus and sold as “Buy New” or “Buy Used” on the WMU Bookstore website.
- Physical cards sold at the WMU Bookstore that include digital access codes.
What’s NOT covered
- Rental books (any rental option), optional or recommended items, and publisher-only digital subscriptions not sold as a physical SKU at WMU Bookstore.
Limits and returns
- You may borrow up to 5 books per academic year (Fall + Spring only). Summer items don’t count toward this cap.
- Physical books are loans. Please return them by the last day of finals (Graduate Assistant will give exact date).
- Physical cards with codes are yours to keep.
Lost/damaged books
- No fines. If you lose or damage a loaned book, you will be suspended from borrowing for the next two semesters (next Spring and Fall).
Out‑of‑stock items
- If a book is out of stock at the WMU Bookstore, you’ll get an email with alternative vendor suggestions. The Service will not purchase out-of-stock items for you.
Privacy & publicity
- The Service will publish only anonymized program stats and testimonials. Your name or photo will not be used without your written consent (email is fine).
Important to know
- All program messages come by your WMU email and Student Success Hub (SSH). Check your WMU email regularly.
- Decisions are final. No appeals.
