KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Get your groove on and cheer Bronco football during Western Michigan University Homecoming activities Friday, Oct. 13, through Sunday, Oct. 15. Students, faculty and staff are gathering across campus under this year’s theme of “Bronco Palooza” to welcome alumni, recognize award winners and hold special pregame tailgates to gear up for the annual homecoming game, which will pit WMU against the Miami University Redhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Homecoming events

Friday, Oct. 13

  •  The Valley Dining Center and WMU Student Center Dining are offering a homecoming lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch costs $13 using Dining Dollars, cash, credit or debit. Find information about dining events

  •  The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. in Miller Auditorium.

  • The Haworth College of Business Alumni Awards Ceremony is at 4 p.m. in Room 2150 Schneider Hall. Recipients and their awards include Rebecca Cox, Mike Doss and John Phillips, Outstanding Alumni Achievement Awards; Jamauri Bogan, Brittany Maffesoli and Zach Novoselsky, Emerging Leader Alumni Awards; Vicki VanDenBerg, Accountancy Outstanding Alumni Award; David Polidori, Business Information Systems Outstanding Alumni Award; Jonathan Koch, Finance and Commercial Law Outstanding Alumni Award; Brian Marsh, Management Outstanding Alumni Award; Jim Cupper, Marketing Outstanding Alumni Award; and Col. Michael Tremblay, WMU ROTC Wall of Fame Award.

  • WMU’s Specialty Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse will celebrate 50 years with a gathering from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the College of Health and Human Services building atrium.   • The College of Education and Human Development’s 25th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Fetzer Center, honoring Jamie Korinek and Pam Schwallier with Golden Apple Awards; Desiree Pfeifer with a Keystone Early Career Award; Danielle Gillis with a Keystone Meritorious Award.   • The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences will honor this year’s Alumni Award recipients in Floyd Hall, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 6:15 p.m. Recipients include inaugural Spire Award recipient Jim Castellano; Alumni Excellence Award recipients Sandeep Badida, Jason Joseph, David H. Nall, Paul Pagano, Anne Saad, Greg Serkaian, Robert Smalldon, Matthew Simon and Mark Zempel; and Emerging Alumni recipients Mark Clapper, Joanna Croes, Alex Fleck, Dr. Kendra Fein, Jesse Hendershot and Lance McCauley.   • The Geological and Environmental Sciences Alumni, Friends and Family Gathering is from 7-10 p.m. at Revel & Roll West, 4500 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo.

Saturday, Oct. 14

  • The Lee Honors College is sponsoring light refreshments and tours of the building at 8 a.m. before its State of the College address at 9 a.m., presented by Dean Irma López. Register

  • The Alumni Homecoming Tailgate is open from noon to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Hall Grand Lawn. Join your fellow Broncos for the afternoon featuring live entertainment, games and great food before heading to the homecoming game. The tailgate is hosted by the WMU Alumni Association. Participants are encouraged to register by Monday, Oct. 9. However, late registrations will be accepted.

  • WMU Broncos versus Miami University kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. at Waldo Stadium. Game tickets may be purchased through the Bronco Ticket Office or by calling (888) 496-8849.

Sunday, Oct. 15

  • The Haenicke Institute for Global Education hosts the annual International Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. at Miller Auditorium. Admission is free, and attendees will be able to explore different cultures through live performances, traditional dances, delicious cuisine and booth displays. Learn more
