Suicide prevention expert presents to campus this week
The University’s Campuswide Suicide Prevention Program brings an expert on suicide prevention to campus on Thursday, Feb. 13.
Jack Klott, founder and director of Suicide Prevention Consultants in Grand Rapids, is scheduled to offer two talks.
Klott will first present “Suicide Prevention Assessment Training for Health Care Providers/Students in Training on Campus and in the Community” from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the dean’s conference room at Schneider Hall.
Then, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Klott will discuss “Suicide, Substance Abuse and Bullying” and “Protective Factors and Implications of Culture on Suicide” in the Lee Honors College lounge.
These presentations emphasize a social justice and public health approach to suicide prevention by focusing on the importance of improved social connections to build resilience. The idea is that we create the culture and environment of our campus.
Consider attending these presentations to learn more about the important role our connectedness plays in helping vulnerable individuals within our campus community.
For additional information, contact Dr. Delores Walcott at (269) 387-1875, Molly Ray at (269) 387-1887 or email the Campuswide Suicide Prevention Program at @email. Guest parking will be available in WMU lots 72R (Schneider Hall), 72F (Fetzer Center) and 61R (Rood Hall).
This program is sponsored by the WMU Campuswide Suicide Prevention Program, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Division of Student Affairs, the School of Interdisciplinary Health Programs and the School of Social Work.
