Charles R. "Rusty" Dannison, Ph.D., J.D. aged 58, of Alto, died September 6, 2005. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Linda Dannison; children, Charles and Laurie of Boston MA, Nathan and Shannon of Kalamazoo, Emily of Alto; one granddaughter, Eva Rose; one brother, Roger Scott Dannison; one sister, Jeanne (Michael) Contreras; his mother-in-law, Eva Silverman; sister-in-law, Jan Dannison; brother-in-law, Ross (Anne) Silverman; nieces, Nina Contreras, Jeanne Dannison, Meghan Silverman and nephews, John Dannison, Evan Contreras, Andrew Silverman and Dean Contreras. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorraine; stepfather, Clifford Klapp; son, Ross; father-in-law, Maurice Silverman and brother, David.
Rusty was born in South Haven, MI on November 10, 1946, he was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Western Michigan University (BA) 1969, Kansas State University (MA) 1974, Kansas State University (PhD) 1976, Cooley Law School (JD) 1984, served two tours duty in Vietnam as a forward observer in the Americal Division in Vietnam, received two Bronze Stars and The Silver Star, retired as a Major, taught at Western Michigan University for 25 years as an Adjunct Professor, founded the Cascade Family Law PC and practiced estate planning and elder law.
He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pilgrim Manor, was a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Michigan Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys, and the Probate Section, the Family Law Section, and the Elder Law and Advocacy Section of the State Bar of Michigan, a member of Doric Lodge No. 342 F. & A.M., 32 Degree Mason and a longtime member of First Park Congregational Church.
He had a lifelong love of animals and nature and was a staunch patriot. A memorial service will be Saturday at 5 PM in First Park Congregational Church, Dr. Maurice Fetty and Rev. Todd Petty officiating. Interment Trowbridge Methodist Cemetery at Allegan. In lieu of flowers memorials to Western Michigan University or First Park Congregational Church.
