Discovery Day
You can experience cadet life by registering for an ROTC visit from 1 to 4:15 p.m., available on Wednesdays in Grand Rapids and Thursdays in Kalamazoo. During your visit you will:
- Sit in on a first-year ROTC class.
- Participate in a leadership lab.
- Interact with current cadets, instructors, mentors and the scholarship and enrollment officer.
Please note that labs take place outdoors, so dress accordingly. Family members are welcome to view the class and lab.
If you would like to make your visit a full-day experience, be sure to also register for a WMU campus tour the same morning.
Morning physical training
Do you want to join current cadets for organized physical training? You'll feel like a member of the group as you are challenged and trained to the Army standard.
We meet from 6:20 to 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the lobby of the Student Recreation Center. Please remember to dress appropriately for a workout.
Summer Leadership Camp
The three-day ROTC Summer Leadership Camp provides high school students the opportunity to conduct military-like activities with like-minded peers, while being mentored by senior cadets and instructors. On the morning of day one, you'll be bussed from WMU to the Fort Custer Training Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. For three days and two nights, you'll participate in a number of military trainings, sleep on bunk beds in open bay housing and eat military rations. You'll return back to WMU in the afternoon on day three.
