DAY, Richard K. "Dick" Of Marshall

Well known area musician, died Monday, November 10, 2008 in an auto accident. Playing professionally since the age of 16, he has been known throughout the area for playing music to dance to, his quirky sense of humor and love of life. Playing with Jerry's Jumping Jacks for one of the first of the groups he was part of, and then came his dream, "Swing City", his eight piece group of professional musician friends, dubbed "The Best Little Big Band Around".

 

Dick is survived by his wife Jaryl; daughter, Judy (Jim) Trapp; grandson and wife J. Ryan and Catherine Trapp, and granddaughter Alyssa Trapp; daughter, Julie Taylor (fiancé Dale Matthews); grandchildren, Emily Taylor and Jeremy Taylor; daughter, Sara (Ray) Davis and grandchildren, Jacob, Collin and Lelah; and son, Steve (Laurie) Day and grandchildren, Nathan and Elijah Day. Also surviving are two significant ladies from his past, Phyllis Bennett-Haueseler and Nancy Day; sister, Janet (Jim) Yates and several nieces and nephews and his two best four legged friends Teena and Betsy.

 

He was admired and appreciated by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Shirley Smith.

 

Family services will be held for Dick with committal at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In keeping with what Dick loved most and was most known for there will be a musical jam session and celebration of the joy that Dick has given so many for so many years to be held at the Marshall Activity Center on Friday, November 14, beginning at 4 PM. Everyone is welcome!

 

Musicians, including past and present students please bring your instruments to join in!

 

Arrangements are by Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. The family would prefer that friends remember Dick with a memorial to the Dick Day Scholarship Fund with a check to the Marshall Community Foundation. Assistance with memorials is available at Kempf Funeral Home.
