Major Matthew I. Alexander, a native of Clarkston, Michigan, is an active duty Army officer and assistant professor of military Science at Western Michigan University’s Army ROTC program. Commissioned in 2013 through the Central Michigan University Army ROTC program, he is a distinguished aviator and leader with over 12 years of service.
MAJ Alexander has held numerous leadership roles, including Company Commander, Executive Officer, Human Resources Career Manager, Flight Platoon Leader, Battalion Logistics Officer, and Brigade Aviation Officer. His assignments include service with the 127th Aviation Support Battalion and 3-501st Assault Helicopter Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas; 3rd Brigade Combat Team and 6-101 General Support Aviation Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky. MAJ Alexander has deployed in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve in Europe (2017, 2020) and Operation Southern Guardian along the U.S. southern border.
MAJ Alexander's professional development education includes graduation from the Aviation Basic Officers Leader Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing School, Joint Fire Power Course, and the Aviation Captains Career Course. He has also completed numerous other courses and schools such as Airborne, Air Assault, and the Company Commander and First Sergeant Course. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University and is currently an MBA candidate at the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University.
MAJ Alexander’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Army Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Silver).
