Major Zack Poole is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of Engineers in the Louisiana Army National Guard from Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama in 2012. He earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of West Florida in 2014 and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville in 2025.
MAJ Poole’s first assignment was as a Platoon Leader in the 843rd Engineer Company of the Louisiana Army National Guard. After completing 25 months of Platoon Leader time, he transitioned into the Army Reserve in 2014 and served as Company Executive and Commanding Officer of E Co. 4th Battalion, 323rd Regiment in Mobile, Alabama until attending Civil Affairs Captain’s Career Course and Qualification Course in 2015 and serving in A Company, 443rd Civil Affairs Battalion. After transitioning to the Regular Army in 2017 and being stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, MAJ Poole was assigned to the 70th Brigade Engineer Battalion and served as an assistant S4, assistant S3 and Brigade Engineer. MAJ Poole left active duty in 2020 and joined the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) where he served in various positions in C, D and Headquarters companies until transferring to Western Michigan University to serve as Assistant Professor of Military Science.
MAJ Poole has received multiple awards during his career, including the Army Commendation Medal (C device and 3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M device), Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Polish Parachutist wings and Irish Parachutist wings.
