Lt. Col. Johann Hindert is an active-duty U.S. Army Special Forces officer who is honored to serve as the commander of the Los Angeles Recruiting Battalion, 6th Recruiting Brigade, United States Army Recruiting Command.
Hindert was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Western Michigan University in August 2003. His key leadership and developmental assignments include Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader in 1-72 Armor, 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Camp Casey, Republic of Korea); Rifle and Mortar Platoon Leader in 4-9 Infantry, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (JBLM, WA); Special Forces Operational Detachment – Alpha 1334 Commander and Headquarters Support Company Commander, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (JBLM, WA); Jedburgh Company Commander and Executive Officer, 4th Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (JBLM, WA); 39th Special Forces Detachment Commander (Icheon, Republic of Korea); Special Operations Command – Korea Executive Officer (Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea); and the Office of Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict Army Special Operations Action Officer, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense (Policy), Office of the Secretary of Defense (Pentagon).
Hindert deployed with 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division to Iraq from 2007-2008 as a Mortar and Rifle Platoon Leader. He deployed to Afghanistan from 2011-2012 as a Special Forces Operational Detachment – Alpha Commander, and he deployed to Iraq from 2019-2020 as the Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation INHERENT RESOLVE Commander’s Action Group Chief.
Hindert holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Kalamazoo College and a Master of Science degree in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.
His military awards and decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals, one Iraq Campaign Medal, two Korea Defense Service Medals, the NATO Medal, the Special Forces tab, the Ranger tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge, the Military Free Fall Parachutist badge, and the Parachutist badge.
