JAMES D HOFFMAN - CLASS OF 1958

Hoffman, James D “Jim” of Grand Rapids, Michigan

1936 – 2013

HOFFMAN, JAMES D. Grand Rapids James D. Hoffman, aged 77, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013. He was a fine man, a great educator and a solid citizen. The world needs more people with Jim's character, knowledge and sound reasoning. There are no immediate plans for a memorial, but please join the family as we think back in a celebration of Jim's life and of the contributions he made to society, his colleagues and students.

Jim was born in Grand Rapids on January 18, 1936. Graduating from Grandville High School in 1954, then receiving his Bachelor's from Western Michigan University in 1958.

Jim was very involved at Kelloggsville High School where he, directed dozens of plays, coached debate and taught for over 30 years. In addition to coaching baseball, football and softball for Kellogsville, he enjoyed being a strong advocate for education. It would honor Jim, if the next time you attended a play, a musical or heard Jazz from the 40's think of him.

Jim proudly served his country, was a volunteer for Scouts, and avid sports fan. Bob Stewart and Jim enjoyed traveling to baseball stadiums as well as going on relaxing cruises. Taking his canine companions, Chance, and Ollie to romps at the dog park was very enjoyable to him. Please consider memorial contributions to "Paws with a Cause" at www.pawswithacause.org.

Jim is survived by nephews, Michael (Char) Hoffman, Dennis (Cindy) Hoffman; niece, Patricia Hoffman (Dick) Nichols; three grand nieces, a grand nephew, two great-grand nephews.
