Robert M. Johnson, 89 of Midland, passed away Sunday morning, March 7, 2021. He was born February 17, 1932 in Mancelona, son of the late Arvid J. and Lyla E. (Ashdon) Johnson. Bob married the former Joan Shonk on May 5, 1962 in Wyandotte.

 

Bob graduated from Mancelona High School in 1949 he also was granted a B.S. Degree in industrial education from Western Michigan University in 1954, a M.A. Degree in industrial education from Western Michigan University in 1959, and a Ed.S Degree in educational administration from Central Michigan University in 1972.

 

During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army from 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. While serving in the Army, he was assigned to the 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.

He began his career with Dow Chemical USA, Michigan Division in 1957. During Bob's 35-year career at the Dow Chemical Company, he worked in industrial relations, employee development and training, and retired in 1992 as manager of the Michigan Division Technical Training Center. He was also a long-time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

 

Organizations that Bob was affiliated with were: Vocational Industrial Clubs of America; Trustee-Midland Intermediate School District; Member-Michigan Occupational Educational Association; Member-Michigan Apprenticeship Steering Committee; Member-Occupational Education Advisory Committee Ferris State University. Special recognition was received by honorary life membership in the Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society.

 

Surviving Bob is his wife Joan of 59 years and their children: Pamela (Michael) Lambregtse of Lake Orion and Gary (Jessica) Johnson of Glendale, WI, grandchildren, Tyler Lambregtse, Justin Lambregtse, Jack Johnson, and Sean Johnson. He is also survived by a sister Marjorie Johnson of Mancelona, nieces, and nephews.
