Keats, Harry James “Jim” Jr Colonel of Arlington, Virginia

 

1934 – 2022

Jim was born in Chicago, the only child of Gladys (Foraker) Keats and Harry J. Keats, Sr., and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. He received degrees from Western Michigan University (A.B. in history and literature); University of Michigan (M.A. in political science and foreign affairs); University of Chicago (M.B.A.) and Northwestern University (J.D. with Cum Laude honors).

For 38 years, Jim was a practicing attorney, first for the US Department of Commerce and then for the Federal Communications Commission, before retiring in 2011. He proudly served in the Army and the Army reserve, rising to the rank of colonel. His assignments were primarily in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence at the Pentagon. Military honors included the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

Jim was an avid skier and looked forward to an annual trip to Colorado to ski with friends. He was also a dedicated member of numerous professional, military and political organizations, most importantly the Republican National Committee, the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation and a strong believer in the American value system. Social memberships included the University Club of Washington, D.C., the Army and Navy Club (Washington, D.C.) and the Union League Club of Chicago.
