Dennis L. Kuhn, aged 70, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005.

 

The son of the late Kenneth and Helen Kuhn, he was born April 30, 1935 in Springport, Michigan. He graduated from Parma High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University in 1956. While at WMU he was an active member of the Sigma Pi Epsilon fraternity. He joined the Air National Guard in 1957 and served for six years.

 

On June 20, 1959 he married Shirley M. Lambka, and they soon started their family. Mr. Kuhn started his business career as an accountant for Hayes Industries in Ohio. His talents were soon recognized by State Farm Insurance and there he found a home for the next 34 years. Starting as an agent in Jackson in 1961, his leadership skills were soon utilized, and he was assigned a challenging management position in Grand Rapids in 1963. Throughout the next 32 years the Kuhn agency team became leaders in production and service, setting records and maintaining them.

 

During his successful career Mr. Kuhn obtained his CLU and CPCU designations. He was president of the Grand Rapids Life Underwriters Association and taught insurance classes at Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College. He qualified for attendance at the State Farm National Convention every year and for the State Farm Millionaire Club seven times. He retired from State Farm in 1995.

 

Mr. Kuhn was involved in community affairs, being an active member of CLU, CPCU, and GAMA. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit (Episcopal) in Sparta. He loved spending his free hours outdoors and particularly enjoyed boating, fishing and golfing. During the winter he bowled, hunted and was an avid reader.

 

Mr. Kuhn is survived by his wife Shirley and his children, Michael and Diane Kuhn, and Patricia Kuhn and Charles Farley; his sister, Sandra Kuhn; his grandchildren, Leslie, Ryan, Emily, Sam, and Jacob; his sisters-in-law, Mildred Smith, Virginia and Roger Colvin, Peggy and Don Hapgood; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Sparta, MI.
