William R. Owel William (Bill) Owel passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on October 9, 2010 after struggling with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born January 29, 1933 in Kalamazoo, MI. Bill joined the US Army and retired as Colonel William R. Owel. He then worked in the private sector for SAIC in San Diego and Las Vegas. Bill chose the quiet community of Gig Harbor, WA, a place he always loved, to spend his retirement years.
Even after retirement, Bill was extremely active in the Gig Harbor community. He contributed countless hours as a tax volunteer for the IRS, AARP, and non-profits. Other noted accomplishments include past Commodore of the Gig Harbor Yacht Club; publisher for the Nordic Tug Newsletter; Police Commissioner; and President of his Homeowner's Association. Preceded in death by his father, mother and two older brothers.
Surviving are his loving wife, Marilyn E. Owel; brother, Cornelius A. Owel; children Kevin Owel and Carla (Wally) Inger. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Steven and Cory Inger; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service with full military honors will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery on Monday, October 18th at 2:15 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 24th from 2 - 6 pm at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. Donations to the Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH or the Salvation Army are welcomed.
