Harlow W. Redding Jr., age 81 of Ada, formerly of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Harlow was born on June 16, 1938 in Flint to Harlow W. “Pete” and Maurine (Sorenson) Redding.
Harlow graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Business Administration. While at Western Michigan University, Harlow also graduated from the ROTC Program and then served 30 years in the United States Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Harlow then began his second career in the operations division of Gerber Products Company in Fremont for 26 years until his final retirement. Harlow served as an Adjunct Professor at Davenport College in the Business Department.
Harlow met and married Heidi Y. Goldau on December 15, 1961 and had been a resident of the Fremont area from 1964 – 2001 when he moved to Ada. Harlow was a member of the First Congregational Church, was an avid Western Michigan University Supporter, enjoyed traveling around the world, and had been a volunteer at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Harlow enjoyed the Michigan outdoors – hunting and fishing and spending time at his cottage on Big Platte Lake and cabin in Kalkaska, but Harlow truly treasured the time he spent with his grandsons.
Harlow is survived by his wife of 57 years, Heidi of Ada; his children, Steven (Sandy) Redding of Traverse City; Kris (Matt) Daugherty of Grand Rapids; his grandsons, Matthew Daugherty and Ryan Daugherty.
