WERNER Leonard L. Werner died at his home in River Ridge, Louisiana, on Sunday, August 20, 2006.

 

Mr. Werner was born December 2, 1934 in Meauwataka, Michigan to Otto H. and Ferne M. (Campbell) Werner. Mr. Werner was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Lou Richardson and sister-in-law Mary L. (Theodore) Werner. He is survived by his sister Janet (William) Ward, his brother, Theodore; three nieces and one nephew.

 

Mr. Werner attended school at Enterprise School, east of Meauwataka, Selma No. 5 and graduated from Cadillac High School in 1953. He graduated from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan with a BBA degree in 1957. He completed his graduate degree at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon and became a CPA in 1962.

 

Following serving as a Second Lieutenant in the Finance Corps of the U.S. Army, he worked for Arthur Anderson and Co. in Detroit and New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1972, he was employed as a CPA, specializing in finance and income taxation, for a family in New Orleans. Mr. Werner retired in 1999.

 

Leonard enjoyed languages, reading, playing bridge and traveling. In 1972 he began studying German, his father's native language, and became fluent. He made many visits to Europe and located many cousins and other relatives in Germany.

 

Recognizing the high cost of higher education, Mr. Werner established a scholarship for graduate students at the University of Oregon, and an undergraduate scholarship at Western Michigan University, which is named in memory of his parents.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to your favorite charity are preferred. Arrangements are pending at Peterson's Funeral Home, Cadillac, Michigan. Local arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen and Son.
