Myrl O. Wilkinson, 65, of Terre Haute, Ind., formerly of Battle Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, in Terre Haute. He was born June 11, 1932, in Battle Creek to Glenn Philip and Cora Margaret Wilkinson.

He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950 where he was Student Council president from 1949-1950. He graduated from Western Michigan College in 1954 and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1959.

He was a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Army Quartermaster Corps following his college graduation and served on active duty from 1954-1956 including overseas duty in France.

He was a senior partner with the law firm Wilkinson, Goeller, Modesitt, Wilkinson & Drummy, practicing law in Terre Haute, Ind., since 1959.

He represented the AP&S Clinic since 1960 and was instrumental in forming Bethesda Elderly Housing Corp., which constructed and operates low-cost housing for the elderly. He was past president of the Terre Haute Bar Association from 1982-1984 and served as director of the Indiana State Bar Foundation from 1986-1990. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Indiana Defense Lawyers Association and the National Health Lawyers Association. Member of the First Congregational Church, served as director of the Greater Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, Terre Haute Symphony Association, Family Service Association, Arts Illiana and served on the Board of Overseers of the Sheldon Swope Art Museum. Member and president of the Friends of the Cunningham Memorial Library at Indiana State University and was on the board of associates at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Past director of the Country Club of Terre Haute and a longtime member of the Indiana Society of Chicago.

He married Marie Sodora on April 28, 1962. She survives.  Also surviving are several nephews and nieces.  Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers, Phil and Jim Wilkinson.
