The Master of Arts (M.A.) education program in speech-language pathology {residential} and the Doctoral (Au.D.) education program in audiology {residential} at Western Michigan University has been placed on probation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700. A program on probation is not currently in full compliance with the accreditation standards. Programs on probation remain accredited but must demonstrate compliance with the standards within one year.

The probationary status was based on technicalities in how student outcome data was displayed on our webpage and has already been fixed. Should the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) find this satisfactory, the program’s probationary status will be removed at the next full meeting of the CAA in May 2022. The full details of the CAA decision may be found here:

As indicated above, the program remains accredited, and therefore, the probationary status has no implications for student admission, graduation, certification, or licensure.
