National Pan-Hellenic Council
NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL (NPHC)
The National Pan-Hellenic Council consists of both fraternities and sororities, which are also commonly referred to as the Divine 9. Western is currently home to 8 of the 9 organizations that are members of NPHC. Each semester, every organization within the council hosts a week of programming dedicated to their individual organization. The dates of these weeks for the Fall 2024 semester are listed below, and you can find more information about the specific events on the chapters' social media pages.
- AKA Week - September 16-22
- Delta Week - September 23-29
- Sigma Week - October 21-27th
- Iota Week - October 27-November 2
- Que Week - November 11-17
- Kappa Week - November 18-23
- Alpha Week - December 1-8
There are several major council-wide events hosted throughout the semester. The first of these is Yardshow, where each organization showcases their own steps, chants, and strolls. The next Yardshow is scheduled for September 7, 2024. NPHC here at Western is also known for their annual Marchdown, which is a high energy step competition between the organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The 2024 Marchdown Step-Show is TBA. This year, NPHC will also be hosting a new series of events, called NPHC Week. NPHC Week will be September 2-8.
Each organization has its own specific requirements and varied timelines for aspirants to become candidates for membership. All candidates must be full-time students at Western Michigan University during the semester seeking membership. Organizations often host informational meetings that anyone can attend to learn more about the chapter's history, membership requirements, and current membership. There may also be opportunities to meet all the chapters at events coordinated by NPHC, or in collaboration with other councils. If you're interested in joining one of these organizations, you can reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, or send them an email through ExpWMU.
