Recruitment and Intake

Students have the opportunity to seek membership in over 30 organizations. Learn how to join a fraternity or sorority at Western Michigan University by attending programs during Summer Orientation, Fall Welcome Week, or Bronco Bash. You can also find more information on seeking membership below.  Not sure which council you're interested in? Visit the pages on our website, or follow them on social media to learn more.

Multicultural Greek council (mgc)

The Multicultural Greek Council consists of 3 fraternities and 5 sororities. Each organization has its own specific requirements and varied timelines for aspirants to become candidates for membership. Each organization hosts informational meetings throughout the semester that are open to anyone interested in learning more about the history and membership requirements, as well as meeting current members. Students interested in joining an MGC organization are encouraged to attend one or more of these informational sessions, and there may be additional opportunities for community-wide informational sessions hosted by MGC, sometimes in collaboration with other councils as well. If you're interested in joining one of these organizations, you can also reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, send them an email through ExpWMU, or attend events during a chapter's week.

College Panhellenic Council (CPC)

The College Panhellenic Council facilitates a structured recruitment process to kick off the fall semester, typically in September. The dates for this year's formal recruitment are September 23-28. Anyone interested in joining a chapter is highly encouraged to participate in this process, as they are able to meet every chapter on campus and maximize their chances of receiving a bid. Registration for formal recruitment can be found here. After the conclusion of this process, many chapters continue to recruit on their own timelines. If you're interested in joining a specific sorority, you can reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, or send them an email through ExpWMU after the conclusion of the formal process on September 28.

If you need to log into ICS after you have registered for formal recruitment, please visit https://manage.icsrecruiter.com.

*Please note: A non-refundable fee of $25.00 is associated with participation in the Formal Recruitment process, which is paid during online registration. CPC Formal Recruitment is a mutual selection process, which means that both potential members and individual sororities are making choices about membership. The sororities prioritize the women they decide they would like to invite back each round, just like the women participating in the formal process are prioritizing which chapters they'd like to go back to. It is important to understand that a woman seeking membership may not always get invited back to every party she would like to attend.*

National pan-hellenic council (NPHC)

The National Pan-Hellenic Council consists of 5 fraternities and 3 sororities, each of which has its own specific requirements and timelines for aspirants to become candidates for membership. Organizations often host informational meetings that anyone can attend to learn more about the chapter's history, membership requirements, and current membership. There may also be opportunities to meet all the chapters at events coordinated by NPHC, or in collaboration with other councils. If you're interested in joining an NPHC organization, you can reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, send them an email through ExpWMU, or attend an event during a chapter's week.

Interfraternity Council (ifc)

While the fraternities within IFC recruit on campus all year round, the Interfraternity Council hosts a structured recruitment process every Fall semester, typically in September. The dates for this year's formal recruitment are September 15-20. Anyone interested in joining a fraternity is highly encouraged to participate in this event, as they are able to meet every chapter through this process. The registration for formal recruitment can be found here. After the conclusion of the formal process, most chapters continue to recruit on their own timelines. If you're interested in joining a specific fraternity, you can reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, or send them an email through ExpWMU after the conclusion of the formal process on September 20.

United GREEK COUNCIL (uGC)

The United Greek Council consists of 1 fraternity and 1 sorority. Each organization has its own specific requirements and varied timelines for aspirants to become candidates for membership. Each organization hosts informational meetings throughout the semester that are open to anyone interested in learning more about the history and membership requirements, as well as meeting current members. If you're interested in joining one of these organizations, you can also reach out to an active member, connect with them through social media, send them an email through ExpWMU, or attend events during a chapter's week.
