Elementary Education Student Awarded Statewide Scholarship
August 3, 2015
Heather Crull, an elementary education student with a triple minor in mathematics, integrated science, and language arts, was recently awarded a scholarship from the Michigan Council for teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) of $2,500. MCTM awarded scholarships to college seniors and juniors who are enrolled in in a teacher preparation program and have mathematics as their primary teaching interest. Since 1989, MCTM has awarded 134 scholarships from over 25 universities and colleges across Michigan totaling $167,500.
Crull is currently an educational garden manager at a non-profit organization, where she works with teachers to extend classroom activities into the school garden for K-4 students at a local elementary school. As such, she is no stranger with aligning math activities with national common core standards.
