Get Ready for Summer Orientation with TRIO

TRIO SSP is here to support you as you navigate the start of your journey at Western Michigan University

Getting Started at WMU - We Can Help

The TRIO Student Support Program was designed to support incoming students that are often the first in their families to go to college. TRIO SSP supports First Generation, Income Eligible, and students registered with Disability Services for Students. If you fall into one or more of these categories, you may be eligible for the TRIO SSP program. Follow the steps below to get ready for the fall semester with TRIO.

Steps to Success for Starting this Fall

Now that you are an admitted student into WMU, your can apply to TRIO SSP if you meet any of our eligibility requirements. The requirements are listed below:

The New Student Hub is the place to go for all things relating to WMU Orientation. Once you have completed all of your steps in the Gold Gateway, head into the NSH to start your steps towards getting your degree from WMU.

Summer Orientation (this is different from the Future Bronco Days events) is for all incoming students planning to attend the university in the fall. To apply for summer orientation, head into the NSO, check the orientation times, and apply for a date. Some dates are recommended for certain groups like Honors students, Transfer students, or Engineering students.

During Orientation, you will be guided by an orientation student leader and learn more about the university. At the end of orientation, you also apply for your first semester of classes and possibly meet your advisor.

TRIO SSP Requires all it's participants to take FYE 2100 - TRIO and First Gen. This course is only offered to first-year students (including transfers) and upon passing the course, students will be reimbursed for the course! This means, you will be getting free credits! If you are an Engineering, ALPHA, of Exploratory, you will take the FYE courses for those programs. Unfortunately, there is no reimbursement if you take these.  Below are the sections offered this fall for FYE 2100 - TRIO and First Gen so be sure to bring it up to your advisor when it is time to register for your classes:

  • M/W | 11AM-12:15PM | CRN: 40981 - Wilson
  • T/R | 3:30PM-4:45PM | CRN: 41855 - Bracey

TRIO SSP has a very active social media presence. Following our accounts will allow you to engage directly with students in our program, get the latest updates on events and announcements, and give us the chance to get to learn more about you. Follow us below!

Fall Welcome is an amazing program that takes place right before the start of school.  Its a week filled with fun events and activities, meeting people and making new friends, eating food, and learning more about your classes and campus! The week ends with Bronco Bash, a giant festival involving most of campus, and many of the local businesses. Click below to learn more about Fall Welcome.

Yay! You made it though the summer and now it's time for class. As you continue to go through your college journey, remember to always come back to TRIO whenever you need support or direction.
