WMUx Media Services is ready to help you with all of your video needs. We offer professional video production, presentation recording, and live-streaming services to the entire WMU community. From complex scripted projects to straightforward public talks and everything in between, we have you covered.

Our production assistance falls into two categories—University-wide Support and Instructional Support—which may impact both the priority and pricing of your project. Read below to learn more about these categories and the types of videos that are included in each. Once your project is underway, don’t forget to consult our Resources and Guides to get tips and strategies that can help you master the art of media production.

If you have an immediate need to livestream an event or record a presentation, please fill out our request form. For all other requests, please use our WMUx contact form and check the media services box.

University-wide Support

Our video skills go beyond the classroom and extend to helping the University as a whole. We’ve worked with dozens of colleges and departments across our many campuses for over 25 years and are ready to work with you. From live-streaming events to commercials and much more, we do it all!

Live-Streaming Event Coverage

Live-Streaming Event Coverage

Single-camera livestream event coverage is one of our most popular requests. Whether it is streaming a Faculty Senate Meeting for those who can’t attend in person, making sure family and friends around the globe can watch the College of Aviation Wings Ceremony, or sharing special events like the annual Medieval Conference with colleagues and enthusiasts, we can bring your event to anyone in the world. Our professionally operated video camera can connect via USB or USBC to any streaming or web conference service you’d want to use, such as Zoom or Webex, or we can handle hosting the stream on our Mediasite server so that you won’t have to lift a finger on your end.

Presentation Recordings

Presentation Recordings

Recording presentations is another frequent request. Whether you need a recording of a public lecture, awards presentation, ribbon cutting ceremony, or a visiting artist, we can preserve the event and provide a video file for you to post online, share with those who weren’t able to attend, or save for posterity. We are able to accommodate anything from a simple one-camera recording of a single presenter to a multi-camera recording with multiple presenters.

Promotional / Informational / Recruitment Videos

Promotional, informational, or recruitment videos are specifically designed to reach your target audience and motivate them to act. We work with you to develop a customized script or outline that we then produce with your supervision. Whether your goal is to promote a program or degree, inform colleagues of how to use a new system, or encourage prospective students to come to Western, we can help you realize your vision.

Studio Projects

Our small studio is perfect for intimate interviews, informational modules, or “talking head” scenarios. Equipped with four cloth background designs to choose from, an infinite white or black background, or our green screen background replacement, we can accommodate virtually any look. We also have a teleprompter so those who are speaking can read their script while looking directly at the camera, making sure that everything is spoken correctly, and nothing is left out.

Commercials

Commercials

Need a short stylized commercial? We can help tell your story in commercial-sized clips that are cut to specific lengths for television or social media. From promoting the new eSports facility on East Campus to showcasing new Bronco football uniforms and whatever specific needs you might have, we can make it happen.

Experimental Videos

Not every production can fit in a generic category—sometimes, to make your vision a reality, we have to think outside of the box. Whether that means creating a music video, a movie-style dramatic video, or an experimental idea that hasn’t been attempted before, we’re happy to explore how it can be done!

Highlight Videos

Highlight Videos

Want to compile a montage of clips or images to highlight an event, achievement, or milestone? If your department or program is celebrating an anniversary, you want to pull together a year-end review video for your college, or if you simply want to share the adventures taken on a study abroad trip, we can help you make a lasting memory worthy of your achievements.

Instructional Support

We provide many video production options designed to support instructors. If you have an idea about how video can elevate how you convey ideas to your students, we are here to help make it happen. Check out a few examples of how our services can take your courses to the next level below:

Demonstration Videos

Demonstration Videos

Do you want to walk through a “how-to” of a concept you are teaching in your class? If you can’t demonstrate something in real time, record it and share it with your students! For example, maybe you want to show them a process at Pfizer’s facility. If you can’t take your class to the plant, we can take the plant to the classroom by interviewing someone on the product line.

Scenario / Simulation / Role Play Videos

Do you need to simulate a process? Consider recording a mock scenario, simulation, or role-play example so your students can better understand the correct or incorrect way to perform an exercise.

Visiting Artist Interviews

Visiting Artist Interviews

Have you invited a special alum, visiting artist, professional elite, or a one-time visitor to campus for educational purposes? We can help you preserve an interview or presentation of that special someone so that you can share it in current and future classes.

Performance Videos

Whether your students are involved in a “Shark Tank” like PITCH competition for HCOB or are performing a dance through the College of Fine Arts for class credit, we can capture these moments for use in the classroom and as a portfolio reel for post-graduate employment.

Tutorials / Modules / Explainer Videos

Tutorials / Modules / Explainer Videos

If you need assistance creating tutorials, modules, or explainer videos for classroom use, consider us an invaluable resource. In collaboration with our WMUx colleagues, we can create compelling content that makes knowledge-sharing more effective.

Video Training / Classroom Assistance

Are your students required to include a video or audio element with their project materials for class? Media Services can teach you and your students production and editing techniques that make learning come to life.

Pricing

Video requests that are directly designed and used for in-class instruction are free.

For university-wide projects, our pricing structure is considerably lower than what you might find elsewhere in the industry. With a standard rate as low as $20/hour up to $45/hour, your vision can be realized at a fraction of what you might spend elsewhere.

To talk about pricing for your project, please contact David Evans at david.evans@wmich.edu.
