State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs)

What are SCECHs?

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) are hours earned by attending professional development activities provided by SCECH Sponsors and approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Michigan education professionals who hold MDE issued certificates and licenses need to earn education-related professional learning hours each year for renewal and progression of certificates and licenses issued by MDE.

The WMUx Teaching and Learning Team offers SCECHs for select WMUx Events, as well as other opportunities we may advertise throughout the academic year. WMU is an approved SCECH sponsor, and these events are approved annually by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

WMUx Events that are available for SCECH credit are noted, and a select box is included on the sign-up form. Educators who wish to receive SCECHs for attending should select “yes” to the question, “Would you like to receive SCECHs?” The WMUx teaching and learning team will track SCECH attendance throughout the academic year. In April/May each year, WMUx teaching and learning will review event attendance, and those who have earned three or more SCECH credits will be contacted with a link to pay an annual recording fee of $25. Please also track your own attendance as well. Upon receipt of payment, the SCECHs will be recorded on the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS) website. Await an email in the spring of the academic year with a link to submit the annual $25 SCECH recording fee
