Residency information and application
Any Western Michigan University undergraduate student who has been admitted as a degree seeking student and began enrollment effective with the Summer 1 2017 semester or later, will have their residency status determined at the time of admission, and it will remain the same throughout the student’s enrollment at Western Michigan University.
Any Western Michigan University undergraduate student who has been admitted as a degree seeking student and began enrollment as of the Spring 2017 semester or earlier, may apply for in-state resident status for any semester/session in which they are enrolled in on-campus courses by completing a residency application in accordance with University procedure.

Washington D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant
For residents of the District of Columbia only.
Western Michigan University participates in the Washington DC Tuition Assistance Grant Program. DC TAG provides up to $10,000 toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at WMU. Visit the DC TAG page for more information about this program.

American honors
Western Michigan University is a member of American Honors, one of the most prestigious community college honors programs in the country. Students attending one of a select group of community colleges will complete two years of course work, and then transfer to a participating four-year institution. Out-of-state military
Western Michigan University will grant in-state tuition to all veterans and their dependents as well as provide numerous veterans’ support services. In order to take advantage of this program, applicants must indicate past military experience within the admissions application and submit verification of military status to be granted in-state tuition rates. Kalamazoo
Located in Southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo offers a big city feel with the small town charm. Transportation
Situated halfway between Detroit and Chicago, Kalamazoo has a full-service transportation center including Amtrak, Greyhound, Indian Trails and the city’s Metro Transit public bus system transfer hub. All Metro Transit buses are free to WMU students with their Bronco Student ID. Located only four miles from downtown Kalamazoo is the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.
