Welcome to the Centers for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS) at Western Michigan University. Whether you’re navigating the pressures of college life, managing daily stress, dealing with relationship changes, or simply looking for a safe and confidential space to talk things through, we are here for you. Staffed by dedicated graduate student counselors and overseen by licensed professionals, we provide free counseling for enrolled WMU students and accessible, income-based sliding-scale care for Michigan residents. We see folks in person at both of our locations, in Kalamazoo and in Grand Rapids. For those outside of the greater Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids communities, telehealth is also available. Services

CCPS has two centers, one in Kalamazoo on the main campus of WMU and one in Grand Rapids. Both are staffed by select faculty and supported by graduate assistants. Staff and student counselors are all supervised by licensed professionals. At both locations, personal counseling services are FREE for enrolled students. More specialized services may include a fee.

Both centers offer personal counseling for FREE for enrolled WMU students and services for community members on an income-based sliding-scale fee. Both centers provide several different types of personal counseling:

Family Counseling
Adult Individual
Adult Couples or Relational Work
Group Counseling

In addition to personal counseling, the Kalamazoo location also offers free student and WMU alumni career counseling. An optional, comprehensive career assessment, the IMPACTeX Navigator, which includes an interpretation session with a career counselor, is also offered. The assessment is available for a fee of $20 and is only available to enrolled WMU students at this time.

Locations

Kalamazoo

The counseling center in Kalamazoo is located at 3341 Sangren Hall on WMU’s main campus. We’re open Mondays-Thursdays starting at 9 am. Based on the semester schedule, the center is open until at least 5 pm and may be open until 9 pm. Please call for the current semester’s hours of operation.

—Please note that if campus closes due to emergency, inclement weather, or planned closings such as school breaks, this center is also closed.

Grand Rapids

The counseling center is located at 200 Ionia Ave SW in Grand Rapids and is open Mondays –Thursdays from 9 am-9 pm and on Fridays from 9 am-5 pm.

This location offers free personal counseling for student & income-based sliding-scale services for community members. We also provides N-648 Psychological Assessment & Psychological Testing for ADHD and/or Learning Disorders

Local community members

Counseling and psychological services are provided at low cost to children, adolescents and adults residing in southwest Michigan. Persons desiring services may contact the Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids centers directly for an appointment. All matters discussed are considered confidential.
Services are provided to persons regardless of social class, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or level of education.
Ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association govern behavior of all student counselors, center staff members and supervisors.
While most clients are self-referred, referrals from other professionals and agencies are possible. Contact the centers for additional information.
Services are also offered to WMU students, faculty and staff.
