Faculty opening: Counselor Education: Faculty Specialist II (Grand Rapids)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Counselor Education: Faculty Professional Specialist II, tenure-track position begins fall 2018 or January 2019.  Appointment is for Fall/Spring semesters with a possibility for summer teaching assignments. Earned doctorate in counselor education by start date from a CACREP accredited doctoral program. Applicants with demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, advising, and experience integrating technology into teaching, distance learning or other emerging information technologies are desired. Candidates should have sufficient interest and/or experience teaching graduate courses in counselor education including foundational counselor education courses, and experience teaching in a counselor education specialty, e.g. clinical mental health counseling; marriage, couple and family counseling; or school counseling. Preference for individuals with experience as a counselor education faculty member with teaching, advising and training experience in a counselor education program who hold or are eligible for licensure as a professional counselor in Michigan. Individuals with a strong background in multiculturalism and diversity and a strong teaching and supervision record are desired. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate counselor education courses at the regional location in Grand Rapid, MI. Duties also include supervising practica; supervising internships; advising master’s and doctoral students; serving on doctoral committees. DEPARTMENT

The Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology (CECP) offers a CACREP accredited master's program in Counselor Education (college counseling; clinical mental health counseling; marriage, couple and family counseling; school counseling; and rehabilitation counseling). In addition, a master’s program in Counseling Psychology, and a dual master’s degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling/Rehabilitation Teaching with a specialization in blindness and low vision are also offered. At the doctoral level, programs in Counselor Education (CACREP accredited) and Counseling Psychology (APA accredited) are offered. All doctoral programs emphasize research, practice and leadership competencies.  The Department includes a chairperson, 16.5 full-time faculty members, research/teaching assistants and part-time faculty.  The faculty specialist is primarily a teaching position and is located at Western Michigan University’s downtown center in Grand Rapids, MI.
