Gwen Frostic Doctoral Recipient
Counselor Education Ph.D. student, Baochun (Jojo) Zhou, has been awarded a Gwen Frostic Doctoral Fellowship. The Frostic Fellowship is a highly competitive fellowship awarded annually by the Graduate College to doctoral students engaged in dissertation research in any field. Jojo's selection is a very nice honor.
Zhou, a Doctoral Associate to Dr. Marianne Di Pierro, Director of Graduate Center for Research and Retention, is a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision who joined WMU in the fall 2011. Her cross-cultural working and living experiences in both China and the U.S. have cultivated her research interests in multicultural and diversity issues, and advocacy for marginalized groups of color.
Ms. Zhou’s dissertation research is targeted on the conceptualization and measurement of the construct of helicopter parenting. Her work has the potential to significantly impact our understanding of the millennial generation and the construct of helicopter parenting. In the field of counseling and counselor education, her work will provide a better understanding of the new generation of Millennials, their mental health, and the nature of the construct of helicopter parenting, and may also result in a better understanding of the next generation of counselors-in-training.
