FCS student recognized by the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Samantha Walker (‘20 B.S. Nutrition and Dietetics, ’22 M.S. Family and Consumer Sciences - Dietetics), received the 2022 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award from the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MiAND). Walker was the recipient of the 2021 MiAND Outstanding Student in a Dietetic Internship award.

Since the completion of her internship has been continuing to gain experience. She has been working as a Graduate Assistant for the Nutrition and Dietetics and Fashion, Merchandising, and Design Departments; interning with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Policy Initiatives and Advocacy team; and is currently the Intern Liaison with the MiAND Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee. Beginning in June 2022, she will take over as MiAND's Consumer Protection Coordinator (CPC). 

“Since I have found my passion for dietetics, I've poured my heart and soul into advocating for the profession and advancing nutrition priorities for the health and safety of Americans. I am humbled to be the recipient of the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 2022 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year award,” shared Walker.

She is currently seeking a policy position through the lens of environmental sustainability where her knowledge and skills will be utilized to enhance food access and health equity for the public.
