Insurance FAQs

STUDENT INTERNS

What insurance coverage do WMU student interns have?

WMU insurance coverage for student interns is a third party coverage.  Meaning, if a client (third party) sustains any injuries while a WMU student intern is working with them, there will be coverage.  This is not a healthcare insurance program for a student intern's personal injuries.  Personal injuries sustained should be submitted through the student's personal health insurance.

What steps should a WMU student intern take when an incident/injury happens while they are working with a client?

  • Report the incident/injury to your WMU advisor.
  • Provide details about the incident/injury to your WMU advisor.  Details should include:

          -  Your name, email, and phone number.

          -  The email of the site where the incident/injury happened.

          -  The date of the incident/injury.

          -  A detailed description of the incident/injury.

  • Provide your WMU advisor with all documentation pertinent to the incident/injury.
  • The WMU Advisor will put the Risk Management Office on notice about the incident/injury, and will provide the Risk Management Office with all of the details/reports/documentation concerning the incident/injury.
  • The Risk Management Office will report the incident/injury to its insurance carrier.
