Greetings from Dr. McCorkle
Welcome to Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Multicultural Meet and Greet, participants!
Western Michigan University takes pride in being a leader in fostering a campus culture that thrives to create a sense of belonging for all students, staff and faculty. We are committed to creating spaces in which all are seen, heard and valued.
Diversity at WMU is viewed from a broad lens to include diverse experiences, backgrounds, identities, worldviews, perspectives and ideas. We seek to become a campus that is truly inclusive, in which each member of our campus community feels they are able to engage and contribute to the shaping of our campus climate.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) provides strategic guidance to the institution on how to be a diverse, inclusive and equitable campus through the work of Disability Services for Students, Office of Diversity Education, LBGT Student Services, and Multicultural Affairs for Students. We are actively engaged in both the community as well as on campus with outreach that seeks to educate and assist in building an inclusive community. The mission of ODI is to provide leadership and accountability in guiding systemic change in order to be equitable in access, resources and opportunities for all in the WMU community. We seek to afford students, faculty and staff with opportunities to engage with individuals, ideas and experiences that challenge their worldview and promote an understanding of other perspectives and ways of being.
It is important to note that this event is possible through the support of the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Aviation, the Haworth College of Business, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the College of Fine Arts, the Graduate College, the College of Health and Human Services, the Lee Honors College, the Merze Tate College and the Division of Student Affairs. These are a few of our collaborators in creating a campus dedicated to inclusion and belonging.
On behalf of the staff of ODI, we warmly welcome you to Western Michigan University and as a part of the Bronco family. We are resolute in our contribution to your academic, personal and professional achievements. Boldly and confidently pursue your dreams!
Candy McCorkle, Ph.D., Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion
