WMU names Essential Needs program to honor President Montgomery

With the program naming comes a goal to increase philanthropic support for students through the program. Greater voluntary support will allow expansion of current services as well as the addition of new and other needed services.

Victor Onama, a Ugandan doctoral student at Western Michigan University, is driven by his personal experience witnessing widespread need to contribute to humanitarian efforts. His decade-long career, involves utilizing geographical information systems to support nonprofits in Africa and the Middle East, focusing on emergency response and food security.

WMU sales students thrive in the desert, winning the Desert Cup

A team of four WMU Haworth students won first place at the Arizona Collegiate Sales Challenge, bringing the Desert Cup back to WMU for the third time. Competing in sales role-play and marketing presentation events, the students worked hard to prepare and support each other, leading to the top spot out of 15 schools represented at the competition.

From China to the Midwest, WMU trustee finds a home in Kalamazoo

In the summer of 1989, Lynn Chen-Zhang left China two months earlier than planned due to rising political tensions. She was 22 years old. Today, Chen-Zhang calls Kalamazoo her home. She and her husband, Charles, have donated millions to Western Michigan University and organizations throughout southwestern Michigan. 

Empowering Community Health: A Collaborative Effort Between WMU and NHBP

In Michigan, Western Michigan University's Master of Public Health (MPH) program has partnered with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) to create impactful community health initiatives. This collaboration, led by Christina Anthony and Shelby Brueck, involves student-led projects that address NHBP's health priorities. These projects include creating visual media for STI and HIV prevention, drafting culturally relevant communications, and developing campaigns on immunizations, tickborne disease prevention, and nutrition. This partnership provides WMU students with real-world experience and highlights the program's success in developing public health leaders.

Faculty at the Haworth College of Business are looking for ways to make sure students have access to the materials they need to be successful in the classroom. Several faculty members applied for and received grants to adopt or create OER course materials, providing significant benefits to students.
