Updates in Academic Affairs: April 13, 2015
Inside Updates: April meetings set for academic affairs non-bargaining unit staff, introducing a revamped PRISM and save the date for Academic Convocation 2015.
April meetings set to update staff on budget, other issues
The Office of the Provost will host meetings for all non-bargaining unit staff members in academic affairs on Friday, April 17. The sessions will be held in the Fetzer Center’s Kirsch Auditorium.
Staff members will hear updates on the following topics:
- Aon Hewitt staff compensation project
- Academic Program Review and Planning
- Budget
- General Education
- University Strategic Planning 2015-2020
Two meeting times are being offered to accommodate normal business hours and operations. The first session is from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. and the second is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Supervisors are encouraged to accommodate staff participation in these meetings. However, Media Services will live stream both presentations for those staff members who are not able to travel to the main campus in Kalamazoo.
Beverages and bakery items will be available before each of the sessions to thank staff members for their many contributions to keeping departments running smoothly, and for supporting our students.
PRISM returns as academic affairs news digest
PRISM is now available online in its revamped format as a compilation of news from across academic affairs.
Going forward, this digest will be released once per semester, featuring noteworthy events, publications, individual accolades and articles from the previous semester.
The update of PRISM acknowledges an evolving communications climate at WMU in which almost every college, school, department and unit has its own website or electronic newsletter. The new format more efficiently promotes the very best of academic affairs and demonstrates how the campus community works together to advance the University's goals.

Save the date—Academic Convocation 2015
The University community will gather at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, for the annual Academic Convocation and to hear the State of the University address delivered by President John M. Dunn.
This event recognizes faculty and staff members for excellence in teaching, research and service, and provides an opportunity for all to reflect on the state of the institution overall. A reception in the Richmond Center for Visual Arts will immediately follow the ceremony.
