Business college dean candidates to give on-campus presentations

Four candidates for the position of dean of the Haworth College of Business will visit main campus during the weeks of Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 for interviews and public presentations.

Public presentations for each candidate are scheduled in the Putney Lecture Hall at the Fetzer Center at the following dates and times:

  •  Monday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m.:  Dr. Don Capener, dean, Davis College of Business, Jacksonville (Florida) University
  •  Monday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.:  Dr. Anthony Ross, professor and the Rockwell Automation Endowed Chair in Supply Chain Management and Supply Chain Management Institute founding director, Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  •  Wednesday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m.: Dr. Richard J. Buttimer Jr., senior associate dean, Belk College of Business, University of North Carolina at Charlotte
  •  Thursday, Dec. 8, 3:30 p.m.: Dr. John D. Mittelstaedt, professor of marketing and UW Sales Initiative director, College of Business, University of Wyoming

Dr. Ming Li, dean of the College of Education and Human Development, is serving as chair of the search committee. Cathy Smith, business manager senior in the Office of the Provost, is providing administrative support. The committee has been working with search consultants from Parker Executive Search since May 2016 in support of this administrative search.  

The campus community is urged to attend and to encourage attendance at the candidate presentations and forums as schedules allow. The search committee supplies feedback forms available at each candidate presentation and looks forward to input.

Panel discussion on ‘students of concern’ set for Dec. 1

Members of the campus community are invited to attend a buffet breakfast and panel discussion titled “Working with Students of Concern at WMU-Kalamazoo Campus” scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Fetzer Center, Rooms 1035-1055.

Staff from the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of the General Counsel, the Office of the Ombudsman and the WMU Department of Public Safety will discuss the University’s approach to working with students for whom concerns are reported by members of the WMU community. The panel will offer information and provide practical application of resources to faculty, staff and students based on best practices.

A buffet breakfast will be provided beginning at 8 a.m. The panel discussion will be live-streamed beginning at 8:30 a.m. and recorded for those at off-campus locations who are unable to attend in person.

Nomination for new ‘global engagement’ award due Dec. 4

The Global Engagement Award Committee is seeking nominations for the University’s Global Engagement Award by Sunday, Dec. 4.

This new award recognizes contributions to:

  • communities and stakeholders locally or abroad.
  • the global engagement of WMU and its students and faculty and staff members.
  • the enhancement of knowledge and understanding of global affairs.

The contributions can be in the realm of teaching and other instructional activities, research and creative activities, service and, outreach. The new award, which is open to members of the faculty and staff, will be given annually.
