Campus Climate Town Hall Meeting

A Message from the Campus Climate Survey Steering Committee:

Thank you for allowing us to present to your group last fall. Since that time, the survey administration and follow up focus groups have been completed. With your encouragement to your constituents, the response rate for the Campus Climate Survey was phenomenal. The number of usable surveys was 5,615 or 19.9%. The overall response rate was nearly double what is typical for a survey of this nature. A typical response rate is 10-12%. A total of 81 people participated in the focus groups, representing a broad cross-section of the campus community.

The finishing touches are being completed on the campus climate study executive summary and final report. When the full campus community comes back to campus in the fall, the reports will be posted electronically and widely publicized including WMU Today, Western News, the Go WMU portal, and a message from the president. At that time, you will learn further information about the results of the research.

We request your support to encourage your constituents to attend one of three town-hall style meetings in early October. The external consultant, Dr. Roger L. Worthington will present findings. Meeting attendees will have an opportunity to make comments and ask questions.

The reports include a recommendations section. Implementation of recommendations will require the support of the campus community from across all divisions and units. This work will be accomplished through a Tactical Action Community (TAC): Equity Diversity and Social Sustainability with special attention by a Campus Climate Study Project Action Team (PAT) so that it fits within the University’s Strategic Planning Structure. In addition to requesting your support on encouraging attendance at the town-hall style meetings in October, we invite you to encourage employees to participate in the PAT. The PAT co-chairs are Dr. Mary Zwoyer Anderson and Dr. Evelyn Winfield-Thomas.
