Relay For Life
Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. Help fight this disease one step at a time!
Kalamazoo County’s Relay for Life's theme in 2014 was “Serving Up a Cure”. Carol Morris-Mier and Bekki Spanjer were co-chairs for the WMU, PSSO & Friends team named “Serving it Up Western Style”. The event was held at Portage Central High School on May 31-June 1, 2014. This was not just a PSSO event, all were welcome to join. Luminaries were available to purchase.
Our goal of $75,000 was surpassed and we raised $77,000. Thank you to all who donated their money and time to make this event such a great success.
Washington Writers' Academy
In continuing a longstanding tradition of providing support to students in the Kalamazoo community, members of Western Michigan University's Professional Support Staff Organization provided emergency red-bag supplies to classrooms at Washington Writers' Academy. The supplies will support drills and procedures and keep students and teachers safe in the case of an emergency.
